Students’ Suicide Sparked Call for Education Reforms in the Philippines

Download The body of Kristel Tejada was laid to rest at the Manila cemetery last week.

Earlier this month, the 16-year-old student killed herself after she was unable to pay her tuition fees.  

Her death has sparked outrage over the no late payment policy at state universities.

Manila Unveils Electric Passenger Bikes

Download The Philippines capital, Manila, has notoriously bad traffic.  

And all those cars, buses and motorbikes have taken their toll on the city’s air quality.  

The government there has even warned residents that breathing in the air increase their chance of getting respiratory infections.

One organization is trying to cut CO2 emissions by taking some of those vehicles off the roads and replacing them with electrified models.

Download The Philippines government recently dismissed the case against prominent poet-activist Ericson Acosta.

He had been held for two years without trial, allegedly for the illegal possesion of explosives.

Despite the good news, human rights groups say that more than 300 artists and political prisoners are still in jail.

US Navy Ship Runs Aground in Philippine Marine Heritage Area

Download The US Navy plans to dismantle a Navy Ship that ran aground on a World-hertiage coral reef in Philippine waters.

It wants to break up the USS Guardian to prevent further damage to the globally important marine park.
